A
decade of war in Srilanka has torn apart families and
communities. Young women, many of them widows, are seeking
increasingly desperate remedies to support their families.
Many go abroad to work as housemaids, their income providing
Srilanka with its second largest source of foreign exchange
after tea exports. However, as Asia and Gender Coordinator,
Nalini Kasynathan explains, these women are vulnerable
to terrible exploitation. |
